Activities Restrictions

December 10, 2020

To:  USD 350 School Community

From:  Josh Meyer and Blain White

Date: December 10, 2020

Subject: Winter sports and activities

The state activities association (KSHSAA) has issued rules and guidance for winter sports and activities.  For our school, this applies to basketball, wrestling, forensics, and scholars bowl.  These restrictions are in place through January 28th

Attendance at events is limited to two parent/guardians per participant(s) family.  This means only parents or guardians are allowed to attend; other family members or community members may not attend events. In addition to those directly participating in the game or event, managers, cheerleaders and pep band members are also considered participants.

Parents/guardians will be given tickets or added to a pass gate list to gain entry into an event.  Each school will do things a bit differently.  Coaches and sponsors will communicate this information to the participants before each event.  Again, only parents and guardians will be allowed entry into an event.

All spectators must be masked the entire time in the facility, even if they are socially distanced.  If you are unable or unwilling to wear a mask, then you should not attend the event.  This mask rule must be strictly adhered to.

These restrictions from the activities association are in place to ensure our students have an opportunity to participate while still limiting the spread of the virus.  Keep in mind that there may be times our school or other schools will need to further restrict attendance beyond the limits established by KSHSAA, such as allowing NO spectators.  As we have learned, circumstances can change quickly and decisions will be made on a day-by-day basis.

We appreciate your understanding with this.  Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact the coach/sponsor or the school office with questions.  Nearly all athletic events will be live streamed for other family members and the community to watch at home.
